What is Tallow?

Tallow is made by gently rendering the fat from beef. While it might sound unusual today, tallow has been used for centuries for everything from cooking and soap making to candles and skincare.

Why Use Tallow in Skincare?

Tallow is incredibly skin-friendly, thanks to its similarity to the natural oils (sebum) our skin produces. It’s:

Rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K

Highly absorbable, delivering moisture without clogging pores

Long-lasting and stable, with no need for preservatives

Soothing for dry, sensitive, or irritated skin, especially when blended with herbs or oils

Low-waste and local, making use of a traditional ingredient that's often overlooked today

More Than Skincare

Tallow is also widely known as a cooking fat — it’s stable at high temperatures and rich in flavour.

Our choice to use tallow in balms is rooted the values of respect for the whole animal, low-waste living, and working with ingredients that are nutrient-dense, simple, and effective.
